The Professional Journey of a Software Developer: From Bricklaying to Game Design In 2012, I returned to Cheb from Prague. After finishing my university studies, I tried to establish myself as a software developer in Prague. Unfortunately, I was not successful, as my parents did not have any connections in Prague or the financial background to help me get settled in the capital. Finding a job in my field in Cheb proved to be impossible. All of my classmates worked for low wages at O2 or T-Mobile, or did manual labor in print shops. The only way to make a living turned out to be working in Germany. In 2012, I started working for a German company. Despite my education (elementary, secondary and high school and university) and having studied English for more than 13 years in total (including 2 years of IT English and 1.5 years of economic English), I had to start at the lowest position. It took me almost 3 years to work my way up from being a helper with a jackhammer to installing sockets. Thanks to my logical thinking and experience with technical drawing, I quickly got the hang of technical documentation and assembly plans. After three years, I became the leader of several small teams of electricians and we traveled all over Germany, building family houses and installing office interiors. It was a good job with a good salary and I was happy as a single man. If it weren't for the covid-19 pandemic, I would probably still be in that job today. However, the covid-19 pandemic changed everything for me. It complicated traveling for installations. At the same time, I found a wife, we started a family and traveling for week-long or longer work shifts was no longer possible for me. I had to find a job close to the border. For half a year I worked in a glass factory, sweeping the floor. It was one of the worst periods of my life. However, it was then that I finally decided to devote myself fully to my hobby, game development and programming, and I started studying very actively and looking for ways to achieve my dream. Times have changed and today it is possible to find a good job in the field of software development even in the border regions, including in the field of game development, which is my dream.
